Sample curriculum

CI/CD & delivery workflows

Automate application or data pipeline delivery with clear build, test, and deployment stages.

  • Intermediate
  • Live online and in person

At a glance

Who it’s for

Engineers with the listed foundations who want to deepen this skill or apply it in a different stack.

Starting point: Intermediate

Bring these foundations

  • Git and experience running an application or data project.
Foundation sessions can be included when needed.

Technologies & tools

  • Git
  • Jenkins / Azure DevOps / CircleCI
  • Docker
  • AWS / Azure
Setup and versions agreed for your environment.

A practical destination

Skills to practise.

The sample path works towards these capabilities. Final goals reflect your team’s starting point and agreed scope.

  1. 01

Design a delivery pipeline around meaningful checks.

  2. 02

Build and test a reproducible application artifact.

  3. 03

Control deployment stages, secrets and recovery.

Sample curriculum

Follow the learning route.

Each module connects the concepts to practical work. Open a module to explore both.

01Module 1

Delivery foundations

Concepts to understand

  • Continuous integration and deployment concepts
  • Branching and code review workflows
  • Choosing stages for application or data projects

Practical work

Map a change from commit to delivery. Decide which automated checks and human decisions belong at each stage.

Show the result. Explain one decision. Identify what you would improve.
02Module 2

Build & test automation

Concepts to understand

  • Dependencies and reproducible builds
  • Automated tests and quality checks
  • Artifacts, images, and versioning

Practical work

Build a pipeline that installs dependencies, runs tests and produces an artifact. Demonstrate how a failed check stops the flow.

Show the result. Explain one decision. Identify what you would improve.
03Module 3

Deployment stages

Concepts to understand

  • Environments and configuration
  • Secrets and scoped credentials
  • Release checks and approval boundaries

Practical work

Deploy the artifact to a training environment with deliberate secret and approval boundaries. Verify the running application.

Show the result. Explain one decision. Identify what you would improve.
04Module 4

Operating the pipeline

Concepts to understand

  • Logs and failure diagnosis
  • Rollback and recovery
  • Pipeline review and maintenance

Practical work

Investigate a failed pipeline and rehearse a recovery or rollback. Document the logs and checks needed to operate it.

Show the result. Explain one decision. Identify what you would improve.

A sample project

Bring the skills together.

Create a pipeline that builds, tests, packages, and deploys a sample project with a rollback procedure.

Shorter engagements can focus on selected exercises. A larger, learner-owned capstone can be scoped for a longer programme.

Review the work & reasoning

Four useful questions.

  1. 01

Does the work meet the agreed requirements?

  2. 02

Can the learner explain the key decisions and trade-offs?

  3. 03

What happens with invalid input, failure or an unexpected condition?

  4. 04

What would they change or explore next?
